At the beginning
Welcome to you all.
Changes are rare. Additionally it requires immense pressure. Still the rulers dare to say they are pressurized to do that. All in all changes are inevitable but power holders continue to make hay to keep changes in their favor. That is why histories are not always written true, rather readers are forced to accept what was not.
The rulers in Bhutan had long denied Bhutan needs changes; it needs entry into modern world. The propagators were treated like traitors. Ignorant are kept behind the bars. Changes were taken as fouls in society. But in the end, there wasn’t any fowl play – it has to take the path to changes in governance.
The insincere steps have been taken. We are not sure, if Bhutan going to be a democratic nation, under the auspices of Indian chieftainship. The political changes are taking place but large section of people are denied their involvement in the changes or otherwise fooled by the fore runners.
GNH and democratization process in the hands of business-technocrats remain aloof. Has the democratization process tied Bhutanese in unison? Had it started some 50 years back, the state would have achieved tremendous progress, the process of economic revolution started now would not have faced hurdles, obstacles.
Amid this picturesque environment, I will do my best to situate the status of freedoms in Bhutan. When freedoms are concerns, they have attachments with common people, not the rulers. Let them enjoy freedoms, the rulers and leaders have done all the years.
