The chief justice of military cult
For the first time, in my reading news from around the world, I was much happier to learn a chief justice attending inaugural function of military branch of government. And this is from the newest ‘mock’ democracy called Bhutan.
On April, Mr Sonam Tobgye paid courtesy call to IMTART, the Indian force based in Bhutan. Judiciary and Military are two but opposed organs of the state. Military believes on suppression, forceful rule while judiciary is meant to check the militarization, upholding justice.
Further, his attendance was not of the RBA, it was the Indian force stationed in this country to challenge possible intrusion of Chinese, threat felt after the Tibet merger.
It is the matter of ethics for the justice to accept invitation at a military function. But needless to say for a judge raised on cult of military rule, absolutism on where justices can attend and where not.
Will he be able to uphold justice in a democratic society where judges have to strictly maintain their ethics and professionalism?
