SRK, KF as royal entertainers
The latest news is that Bollywood luminaries Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif will be the entertaining troupe to Thimphu this November when the nation enjoys the centenary and coronation combined festival pushing the youngest king in the current world into the throne.
No matter, the celebrations is expected to receive graces from Indian political tycoons including president and chair of the ruling alliance, the invitation of the bollywood celebrities meant the functions will be more entertaining than formal.
At the beginning of the year, the king had asked government and the festival coordination team to make all proceedings simple and sober yet as the days pass by, values are added, fragrance are mixed and items are extended subsequently making festivities lavish.
No matter, government will make a heavy investment for the festivities, it has not yet clarified how much would be invested. Make it a funfare, live and memorable because it happens only once in life. Forget words and commitments because power-players only speaks, do not implement — that’s what we have known all through the years.
We are aware the cost that these stars demand for an event – and in addition this is an event for royals, not common people. Automatically, there will be inflation in demand money. I hope this the first time any Indian actors performing at royal celebrations. This will cost more than inviting president from that country.
And interestingly, it looks sketchy to know that hangover of youth age engaging in entertainments, away from service to nation, has not be-faded from the young king.
To my observation, this is kidding to call film starts into national stadium on coronation festivities. In addition, this will be an attack for Bhutanese movie stars for they are neglected. The other way to understand will be like this: government and the royals talks of promoting national culture, language and tradition but hire others for special functions.
Do these promote Ngalong culture? Obviously not! The politicians and bureaucrats through any efforts cannot put veil on protection of Drukpa culture. Time has changes, people wanted to be out-driven, see the world and get entertained beyond what you see daily. The beginning has been though the royals, all the best for its extension in the days to come.
