Strike cultures of Nepal
Strike is like a game in Nepal. No matter how grave is the issue, the only medium Nepalese people found for seeking decision in their favor is to call a strike. More recently, highway strike has become more popular than general.
The culture has started by political parties – the worst culture of a democratic system where you have the right, constitutionally guaranteed to call a strike. The increasing impunity is the result of the strike and vice versa.
The latest news carried by a Nepalese national daily Naya Pratrika drew my attention. I wonder how illogic, non sensible and irresponsible have Nepalese grown to. I pray my countrymen Bhutanese will never call strike in any circumstances to put pressure on administration.
The daily reports from country’s eastern district Morang where local resident Shiva Kumar Kamat and his relatives blocked the road. And the cause is: Kamat’s wife Majula Devi eloped away with Hari Prasad Raya of the same district. Kamat blocked road for the whole day demanding compensation of NRs 90,000 which they said was expenditure during the wedding ceremony.
The administration is powerless before the agitators because Nepal has developed culture that vandalism gets awarded. The parties have protected many vandals for political interest, undermining the stability of the country. Where ate they heading to? Non sense!!!
