Sex and Society
In a recent chat with my younger brother, living beyond seven seas, I responded ‘doing sexy’ when he questioned my ‘how are you’? That was not acceptable for him, it was nasty, it was dirty.
The fact, Hindu community is stricter in sex issues. Talking sex is not allowed, to the extent that is becomes objectionable to discuss illness related to sex organs or menstruation cycle of female members. I generally oppose it. Sex is integral part of the life and it does not become dirty when you talk about it.
I have gone through a number of Hindu epic which tells the story of sex, very erotic. People take it normal. Ramayana, Mahabharat, Krishna Charitra, Devi Bhagawat, Purans, Bhagawat Geeta, Swasthani….etc etc which ever you read, the story remains incomplete without sex.
The Hindu tradition is full of sex, thanks to ancient teachings of Kamasutra in Indian sub-continent. The western world knew sex very late, I say.
In any Hindu temple that you visit, it always contains the symbol for sex. Hindus pray Shiva Linga, millions without knowing what it is. It is the God Shiva’s penis that Hindus are praying to. While it is unethical for Hindus to go two pieces but still pray a naked Shiva. The story of romance between Gopinis and the Krishna is sermon but not permitted to replicate his sexual behavior.
So, does talking a sex mean getting non-sense when tradition teaches us that way? Conservatism brings disaster, liberalism preserves humanity. Here I bring up some of the erotic sculpture that Hindus temples have.
