Standardising Dzongkha among media houses
September 6: Both print and broadcast media play an important role in developing dzongkha language. However, with many media houses coming up in recent years, there has not been consistency in the use of Dzongkha language.
To standardise the use of Dzongkha among media houses a day long workshop was organised by the Dzongkha Development Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications in Thimphu today.
Differences in spelling, pronunciation, and lack of human capacity were some of the challenges faced by the media houses, according to the participants.
They also pointed out that the use of Dzongkha language, both in written and spoken, should be made uniform among all the media houses.
Some participants pointed out that ‘Dzonglish’ or mixing dzongkha with English is gaining popularity. They said the use of ‘Dzonglish’ should be reduced as far as possible.
