My trip to Melbourne
In my first trip since arrival to Adelaide some two months ago, I choose one of the Australia’s largest metropolises Melbourne. By the time I write this piece, I haven’t been to core city area but the suburbs. They seem no new to what I had experienced in Adelaide.
The Adelaide airport is not so big though disciplined compared to my experiences in Nepalese airports of Bhadrapur, Biratnagar and Kathmandu. Neither do I have to run travel agencies for my tickets nor to stand on queues for my boarding pass. All possible through my computer at home.
Boarding flight seems to be different – people travelling with cheaper tickets, who usually get seats at the back – are required to walk outside the main entrance and board from back door. There aren’t any vans like in Nepal to ferry passengers from boarding gates to flight. That’s not a big problem.
The interesting thing I observe is hotel like facilities inside the flight. The flight does not serve any drinks or food free. The passengers have to buy them according to their need. Two of my friends, sitting beside me, choose a can of coke that cost them AUD 3. Without any cash in hand, I flew one and quarter hours without any food. Additionally, the flights allow passengers to carry food while travelling which is not allowed in Nepal.
On landing Melbourne (Tullamarine), I certainly got cofused – travelled to departures area instead to exit point. As I reached the lounge where passengers were waiting for flights, I realized it is a wrong way. The exit door was just opposite, leading us to terminal 1.
