My conviction and reality of Australian health expertise

Australia is regarded one of the best health service providers in world, most primary cost for most medical treatment being covered by Medicare. The country is also popular for medical studies. This helped medical students from Australia find job easily when they return to their country or travel to other countries in America and Europe.

Besides relatives, good health service is the major reason my family chose to be resettled in Australia. However, upon arrival here, my conviction has changed. Not all illnesses are cured here. I have heard the stories of Australian doctors’ efforts until last moment to keep people alive. One of my relatives was confident that my illness of my mum will be cured once she is here.

It’s not. Within last two months, we have admitted mum in emergency in Flinders Medical Center and Royal Adelaide Hospital. Even the local people have high respect and faith on Flinders as the best health service provider here with large number of expertise on several fields. Despite being expert, neither Flinders nor RAH could diagnose my mum’s illness. The response from the doctors did not change to what we had received from Bagaigaon in India some 35 years ago.

With regard to my mum, the doctors in Australia and those in Bagaigaon 35 years ago are same. I have no cheers in my face to come to Australia and get treatment for my mum.

Interestingly, while doctors have not been able to diagnose the illness that my mum has been suffering since 40 years, they have provided medicine to my youngest brother for illness he might get after 40 years. That has become almost a joke. When they don’t know what existing illness, how can they forecast the future illness?

They have diagnosed my mum with psychological problem. I might agree if she had suffered from the illness after arriving here in Australia. However, it has been occurring since last four decades. She remembers nothing of the sort in her life because of which she had undergone psychological trauma.
