Bhutanese Refugees In Madison Get Safety Tips

MADISON, Wis. — Bhutanese refugees in Madison are getting some safety lessons from police after a member of their community fell victim to a random assault.

A group of Bhutanese refugees arrived in Madison in 2009. The group has grown, and the Madison Police Department said it wants them to know the best ways to stay safe and that they can trust the police if they have a problem.

A few weeks ago, a Bhutanese man was pegged in the head with a basketball while walking along Park Street.

The man’s wife said he has trouble hearing in one ear. His wife said she does feel safe but is more wary after the incident.
