No one wants to handle drug supplies
Shortage of drugs has badly affected the country in recent months. The situation is likely to worsen further in the coming days as the government failed to attract anyone to work as procurement office who will be in charge of the drugs supply.
In two years time, none have applied to work in the position. It seems, a highly profitable job when things get done under table, has turned out to be stale when anti corruption commission entered the scene. Investigations in the division began after some officials’ trip to Germany was found to have been sponsored by one of the Indian medical suppliers to Bhutan.
Financially, this post is not attractive if under table business is not permitted. While those in medical field get 20 percent allowance, procurement office gets not. Additionally, this officer must be technically and medically expert.
The civil service rules and regulations, in its promotion chapter (section 7.6.9), states that, if there are no eligible applicants after re-announcement, the agency shall appoint a competent officer of the division or agency to officiate.
