Untimely death of a resettled Bhutanese in Launceston, Tasmania

Late Mrs. Mon Maya Rai

On 13 July 2011 at 2.45 pm Mon Maya Rai of Launceston, Tasmania (Australia), resettled five months ago from Khudanabari camp sector C/1 hut number 12, has died at Launceston General Hospital at the age of 41 due to blood cancer and its associated health problems.

She was admitted in the hospital since 14 February (the next day after arriving in Launceston) and she was survived by her husband and three sons.

On 14 July her funeral ceremony was performed according to the Kirati culture and rituals in the Kingsmeadow Caravilla cemetery in Launceston which was organised and managed by the Bhutanese Kirati/Buddhist Association of Tasmania Inc. in presence of more than hundred people including staff members of Migrant Resource Centre, volunteers groups, social workers and all well wishers.

The final cultural ritual on her name will be organised on 17 July 2011 at 12 noon in Launceston.
