Explosion in Phuentsholing
It seems the warm up ahead of the general election has not only hit parties in the country but also the underground armed groups in Bhutan. But it is just guess, no one knows yet who was behind the action.
A minor blast at the Kharbandi forest check post near the border town Phuentsholing on Friday evening has left one policeman in duty injured. According to report, the bomb blast at around 8:15 pm. The injured policeman is in stable conditions and is undergoing treatment. The policeman was fired a bullet before exploding the post.
It has been reported that there were sounds of firing after the blast but no confirmation has yet been received whether the police in check post and attackers exchanged fires.
Since it was almost late night, it is unlikely that government has ordered the security force to investigate the incident, which will ease the way for of those involved to escape. The check post has been badly damaged, as seen in the photo sent by a friend working with Kuensel at midnight. There was one gun shot at the nearby immigration office but did no damage except shattering window pane.
There were several explosions ahead of the general election in 2008 but failed to disturb the election process. It is now around a year left for the second general election where two round of elections are likely.
No one has taken responsibility for the explosion. However, the most likely is from the armed groups which claimed responsibility for past attacks.
