The Bhutanese Community of South Australia has democratically elected New Board of Executives for Bhutanese Australian Association of South Australia (BAASA) Inc. (BAASA). BAASA was formed on 5th November 2009 to serve in the best interest of the Bhutanese community in South Australia. This is the second term election held since its inception.
The newly elected Executive Board members include Suren Ghaley (Chairperson), Kamal Dahal (Vice Chairperson), Indra Adhikari (General Secretary), JeevanKoirala(Treasurer) and Sushil Niroula (Public Officer).
The new team took over the responsibility amidst a special function held on Friday, 6th April 2012 at the office of Migrant Resource Centre, 28 Mary St, Salisbury, SA 5108. Former chairperson Jogen Gazmere expressed his hope that the new board, comprised of all young, energetic, qualified and experienced members, will drive BAASA to a new height. Mr Sushil Pokhrel (Member of Advisory Board, BAASA), Mr Gopal Ghimirey (Chairperson, Ombudsperson, BAASA), Ms Bishnu Maya Dahal (Member of Apex Council, BAASA) and Mr T.B. Rai(Chairperson, Financial Committee, BAASA) were among others to express similar hope with the newly elected executive board, and assured their full support to render their service to the Bhutanese community. The function was chaired by Mr R. K. Ghaley (Member of Advisory Board, BAASA) and coordinated by Mr Ichha Poudel.
The organization’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) had mandated three-member election board – Ichha Poudel, T. B. Rai and Bishnu Dahal – to conduct the election. The voting process was spared since only five individuals filed their candidacy for five executive positions.
Newly elected chairperson, Ghaley expressed his commitment to serve the community at his best capacity and extended heartfelt gratitude to all Bhutanese in ushering BAASA and introducing Bhutanese to Australian vast multicultural community and further anticipated good support and solidarity from entire Bhutanese community in SA and around the globe. All elected board members were allowed to express their commitment of community service, which each one of them accepted while expecting support and co-operation from all sections of the community.
