Two women strikers fall sick; hospitalised
Two of the seven women married to Bhutanese men and who are on fast unto death in Beldaingi-2 demanding the registration of non-registered Bhutanese refugees have fallen sick.
Renuka Mongar and Chandra Maya Khadka have been evacuated to AMDA hospital on Thursday afternoon for treatment after their condition worsened.
The health condition of remaining five is deteriorating, says Human Rights Organisation of Bhutan HUROB).
So far no concern has been shown either by the government of Nepal, UNHCR or other responsible agencies. The local human rights activists, who were signatory to the agreement on 26 November 2011 urging the women to withdraw strike assuring them to resolve the problem in five months, are keeping silent.
The camp authorities did not allow the women to erect any shed, thus leading them to sit on open ground day and night. They were completely socked in the rain on Thursday. The security force did not allow these women to take shelter at camp committee office during rain.
“It is really disillusioning for Bhutanese refugees who are victims of suppression and oppression of Royal Bhutan regime and unsympathetic treatment in exile,” says S. B. Subba.
HUROB said it is very concerned of the worsening condition of the women strikers and regret that no one has so far given concern to their demand.
The organisation has asked the government of Nepal to kindly consider the case and expedite the registration and the UNHCR and other agencies to show sympathy and provide humanitarian assistance.
