Business idea competition
The big business companies are not interested for investment in Bhutan due to limited market expansion possibilities. However, the government and the donors are doing enough to attract more investments or create more business opportunities for citizens.
As part of that initiative, Bhutan Innovation and Technology Centre (BITC) located at the Thimphu TechPark has announced that it is conducting a nationwide Business Idea Competition called ‘Business Idea Competition of Bhutan 2012’ with the support of Department of IT and Telecom, Ministry of Information and Communication (MoIC) and World Bank, to encourage and promote innovators and entrepreneurs and raise awareness on innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
Thimphu TechPark was open with the objective of building a vibrant outsourcing centre for international companies. However, there were weak responses from the investors.
BITC in its notice said, it invites all people, having innovative ideas and a desire to take up entrepreneurship as a career choice to send in entries for the ‘Business Idea Competition of Bhutan 2012’ latest by Sunday, 17 June 2012.
In the first round, all submitted entries will be rigorously studied and analysed by experts, and at least 10 best entries will be selected for second round.
The top three will be selected in second round. The proponents of the selected entries may be invited to make a presentation.
The top three will be awarded while remaining 7 entries will receive certificates and special consideration for entrepreneurship development programs in the country.
The 10 best entries will be granted one year membership of Thimphu TechPark at no cost, and they can avail all privileges of the membership such as being invited to events and workshops and discounts on service charges.
Some of the best entries will also be forwarded to various agencies involved in entrepreneurship development programs such as Loden Foundation, Ministry of Labour and Human Resources, Association of Bhutanese Women Entrepreneurs, Youth Development Fund etc. for special consideration for funding and other support.
