Bilingual college rag ‘pcEyes’ launched
An endeavour of the media club to develop reporting and editing skills
New Student Newspaper: The Paro college of education (PCE) launched its own student newspaper earlier this week.
The 20-page newspaper covers events and activities that take place in the college.
The newspaper, which is published in both Dzongkha and English, is an effort by the college’s media club to encourage and develop writing among its student teachers. It is also aimed to help student teachers develop reporting and editing skills. The newspaper is called pcEyes.
The idea to publish a student newspaper came out of a media seminar that was held at the college. “Our mission is to keep you informed about important and exciting events taking place in the college,” it says in the newspaper’s editorial. “It is also to provide a platform to the students to give vent to their original thoughts and, thus, develop an important aspect of their personality,” it adds.
“Initially, it seemed like a piece of cake to publish a newspaper,” said its chief editor, Dawa, a fourth-year student. “But eventually we realised that mission pcEyes was like bringing down the moon on the earth.”
Dawa also pointed out that the media is important because it not only connects people today, but also has a “persuasive effect on the lives of almost every person on earth”.
The newspaper is a monthly, and will be published both in hard and soft copies.
