It appeared to be a serious discussion among the supporters and leaders of the former ruling party Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) in Thimphu last week. The anger and inability to accept the role of an opposition reached the height when some members agreed to meet king and express grievances.

A total of 20 junior level leaders drove to palace on Sunday and had coffee chat with the king who assured them to forward their concern to the election commission. None of the top leaders of the party joined the team to see the king. This is a manifestation of their anger against the king as well.

And all they did was a drama. Had there been any real concern the top leaders should have taken up the issue. The top honchos were clear the case would be forwarded to election commission for any action. And it is very clear the commission would do nothing than issuing a statement.

The height of frustration and anger is more in JYT than others considering the fact that this was the first time he failed in his mission since 1990. One of the architects of southern Bhutan exodus, Thinley never imagined the palace would conspire against him. Possibly its time palace no more needs him.

JYT is unlikely to take the role of opposition leader and it won’t be a wonder if he absent from the parliament session or resigned for a job in UN as happiness propagator. He virtually failed in his last years of political life – before the constitution forces him to retire.

Along with India the palace was unfavourable to him. Queen mothers were not happy with the way their brother Sangay Ngedup lost 2008 election in such an embarrassing manner. Two royal palace agents briefly arrested in Mongar, who were advocating against DPT, speaks the truth of worsening palace-JYT relation.

The sparks are in motion to settle down. The usual business is likely to begin from next week. Lets hope politics in Bhutan would remain favourable for prosperity and progress of Bhutan.
