Jigme Zangpo was initially the president of the party when it got registered at the election commission. He was one of the first students selected to attend school at the Mongar higher secondary school in 1958. He became an educationist and served the sector for 26 years.
The father of six had also tried his hands on administration after becoming dzongda. He then served as High Court drangpon during the final years of his career. After retiring in 2010, he went back to lead a life of a farmer.
