With a Masters degree and a PhD in natural resource policy and management from Cornell University in USA, Dr Sonam Wangyel Wang is DPT’s candidate from Lingmukha-Toewang constituency. He replaces former MP Namgay Wangchuk.
He worked as the head of Nature Conservation Division for four years and orchestrated its reorganisation and of the national parks. He last served as the director of the Royal Education Council before joining politics. He was entrusted with the responsibility to provide an intellectual and visionary leadership for upholding the vision, mission and mandate of the agency.

The consultant and researcher, who represented People’s Democratic party from Toewang-Limu constituency in Punakha in 2008, is back, this time with the party he co-founded. He has done Masters in Public Health from Sydney University and MD in pediatrics from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune India.
He practiced his medical profession in National referral hospital in Thimphu. He has more than 15 years of experience in medical sector. He had in 2008 written a book entitled ‘Drukyul decides – in the minds of Bhutan’s first voters’. He recently published his second book titled ‘Medical History of Bhutan’.
He is one of the founders of the party and serves currently as party spokesperson.

Chimmi Dorj, 56, resigned as the dzongrab of Trongsa on February 1, 2013 a post he assumed since 2009 to join politics. He has 34 years working experience in the civil service. Chimi Dorji served as a school principal for seven years and district education officer for 10 years.
Prior to joining politics Chhimi Dorji (56) served as Trongsa Dzongpon.

The former National Council chairperson, Namgye Penjore, 47, is DPT’s candidate from Kabisa-Talog constituency in Punakha and replaces former MP Tshering Penjore.
He has a bachelor’s degree of commerce from Sherubtse College and a master’s in business from MP Birla institute of management studies, India. Namgye Penjore started his career in 1991 as a finance officer with Penden Cement Authority ltd and, from 2003, worked as the general manager of Forestry Development corporation ltd for three years.
Before contesting the council elections in 2008, he was the general manager of Bhutan Power corporation. After getting elected as the Punakha representative, he was further elected as the council’s chairperson. Namgye Penjore was also honored with the Coronation Gold Medal in 2008.

Dophu Dukpa, 45-year- old, has a bachelor’s in agriculture economics from the University of the Philippines and master’s in agriculture systems from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. He has worked as an agriculture economist with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests for 11 years.
He has also served as a prevention officer with the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for two years, and later served as a managing director of Mountain Hazelnut Venture until 2010. He has since worked as a freelance consultant before joining politics.

Namgay Dorji is former candidate for National Council.
The 31-year old with a master’s in mass comm. and media management from Punjab University, India is DCT’s candidate from Kabji-Talo constituency, Punakha.
Namgay Dorji worked as the Director of Ascent Pictures, and as the General Manager of White Pigeon Courier Service/Import House.

Sangay Phurba from Punakha will stand from Kabji-Talo constituency. With 20 plus years in the tourism sector, Sangay Phurba, 45, started as a freelance guide to end up managing a travel company.
He is Executive Director of the Guide Association of Bhutan (GAB). He spent his entire working life in the tourism sector. After his graduation from Sherubtse College in Bachelors of Commerce he started his career as a freelance guide and later became General Manager of Lhomen Tours and Trekking Company.
In his 20 years of career in tourism he lead many important tour groups in the country and represented Bhutan in seminars and conferences all over the world.
He was also a guest lecturer on tour guiding at the Royal Institute of Tourism and Hospitality in Thimphu.
