Maj. (Redt) N. L. Rai represents Shompangkha Constituency, Sarpang as the Candidate of Druk Phuensum Tshogpa. He graduated his Bachelors of Arts in 1975 from NDA, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and obtained his Masters in Science in 1990 from University of Madras. He joined as a cadet officer and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in RBA in 1976. He has worked in various capacities as Platoon and Company Commander and the Chief Administrative Officer and took a voluntary resignation in 2003. He was awarded Indian Military Academy “Gold Medal” for Best Sportsman of the Year 1976. His thorough discipline in the defense abounds him with ample experience in organization and management skills that will be highly benefiting the Party. He is married and they have a daughter and a son. He served as minister for information and communication in the first elected government.

The 33-year-old MBA graduate will contest from Shompangkha constituency under Sarpang district. Tamang has gained valuable experience during his tenure in the corporate and private sectors.

Haa Dzongda Rinzin Dorje is Gelephu candidate for PDP. He is the first Chief District Officer to resign to join politics. Rinzin Dorje, 49,is originally from Shingkhar in Zhemgang, but will contest from south. His current census is registered in Chuabari, Dekiling in Sarpang.

Rinzin Dorje has an experience of 25 years in the civil service and has a master’s in public policy, with specialisation in decentralisation and democratization, from the Institute of Social Studies, Hague, in the Netherlands. He did his BA from Sherubtse College.

In his career span he served as an Assistant Planning Officer in Mongar in 1989 and served as Planning Officer in Samtse, Zhemgang, in the home ministry and in the Planning Commission and as the district administrative officer in Trashigang. He also served as the Dungtsab in Panbang and Zhemgang, in 1993.

He was the Chief Planning Officer at the GNH Commission before he was posted as the chief district office of Samtse.

The former National Council member of Sarpang, Karma Donnen Wangdi is from a well to do family. His father, a landlord, owns the maximum land in Sarpang and is a popular and influential figure. He is but a easterner. He is married to Lhotsampa, Kalpana Humagain.

Wangdi’s father was the Gelephu dzongda back in the 1980s. Karma is appreciated for his oratory skills and was soccer during the college years.

He has a BA in economics from Sherubtse College and a post-graduate degree in IT from university of technology in Australia. He also has a post-graduate diploma in management control and management information systems from Maastricht school of management in the Netherlands.

He worked as the deputy director of information and communication division with the Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industries and was responsible for the World Bank and European Union projects. He is a topper from a batch of students who undertook militia training in 1989.

With extensive knowledge in private sector development, parliamentary discourse and IT, Karma Donnen Wangdi will strive to bring greater understanding of such issues in the parliament sessions. He replaced Prem Kumar Gurung.

The freelance consultant had tried his hands on elections by emerging as one of the National Council candidates from Sarpang back in 2007. But he was disqualified for some reason.

This time, Achyut Bhandari, who will contest from Gelephu constituency, as DNT candidate.

Having lived most of his life in village, DCT’s candidate from Gelephu constituency wants to promote higher level of public participation in national decision-making process.

After completing his Bachelor’s in Business Management, Khem Raj Pokwal, 28, started a small business. He has also been exporting oranges during the mandarin season in winters.

Gopal Gurung, 45, is a retired major with Royal Bhutan Army (RBA), and has a bachelor’s of arts from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Pune. He has served in RBA for 22 years.
