The Executive Director of Bhutan Media Foundation Lily Wangchuk resigned from the post to lead Druk Chirwang Tshogpa (DCT) and to contest election from North Thimphu.

Wangchuk is the daughter of Aum Kinlay Wangmo from Trashigang and Late Sangay Wangchuk from Thimphu. She comes from a noble family with her family’s ancestry tracing directly back to Zhabdrung Choley Namgyel from Nindukha, Dagana; Zhabdrung Jigme Chogyal of Drametse Choeje and Sangdag, the youngest son of Terton Pema Lingpa. She is the great grand daughter of Droenyer Ugen Dorji, the first Zhung Kalyon who made valuable contributions towards unification of Bhutan under His Majesty Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck whom he served for over 60 years. Her grandfather Daga Penlop Rinzin Dorji who was the last Daga Penlop also played an important role in Bhutanese history under His Majesty the Second and Third King.

She earlier served as Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP Bhutan and as Bhutanese diplomat for over 12 years. She also rendered her professional services as a consultant in the area of democratic governance to both the government and international organizations.

Lily Wangchuk has over 18 years of extensive experience in governance, diplomacy, international relations, public administration, management, strategy planning and implementation and social issues. Having widely travelled both outside and within the country, she has extensive national, regional and international experience and exposure in democratic governance and varied issues. She has wide knowledge on national policies and varied issues having widely travelled to all 20 Dzongkhags and having worked closely with remote communities.

She also served in RENEW, Tarayana, BAOWE and is currently working towards establishment National Cancer Society.

She was awarded Lions Club Award for Outstanding Diplomat in promoting good bilateral relations between Bhutan and India in 2003 and Postgraduate Award: the Presidents of MTTA Bursary in the Public Policy Program, Australian National University. She has written number of publications and books on Bhutan and related subjects.

He is the former DHI Infra chief executive officer. He comes from engineer background. He replaced Ugyen Tshering who retired from politics as Foreign Minister due to health problems.

With a degree in mechanical engineering as a Fulbright scholar at University of Kansas in United States, Kinga Tshering also completed his master’s in business administration and in dispute resolution from Pepperdine University, California.

He is also an expert in infrastructure development, banking and finance, energy sector, institutional building and mediation and dispute resolution.

Before joining DHI, he served as Bank of Bhutan CEO where he introduced IT-based services and delivery channels in the bank’s numerous branches nationwide, including Visa and Master card services.

Forty nine years old Sangay Zam will be representing Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa from North Thimphu Constituency. While in the National Council, she was a member of the Legislative Committee, and the National High Level Land Committee.

Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba graduated with two Bachelor of Arts degrees from St. Josephs College, Darjeeling, India in 1974 and University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA in 1975. Lyonpo obtained his Master of Arts (Economics) degree from the latter University in 1976.

His career took him from His Majesty’s Gokha to Planning Commission to Ministry of Finance and became the Secretary in 1992 and then Minister in 1998. He served two terms as the Prime Minister of Bhutan in 2000 and 2004. As Minister of erstwhile Trade & Industry, he resigned to join the Party. He was the Chairman of 17 authorities, corporations, commissions and financial institutions, and Governor of ADB, IMF and WB, among others.

He has attended many international meetings; IMF/WB, SAARC, BIMSTEC, GOI among others and led delegation to RTM and bilateral multilateral resource mobilizations, and also represented Bhutan several times to LDC conferences. He was the Chief for Bhutan’s accession to WTO. He was the recipient of Gold Medal during college days, he was conferred Red Scarf (Dasho) in 1991, deputy minister in 1997 and Orange Scarf as Minister in 1998. He is recipient of the Coronation Medal in 1999 and the grand order of the Druk Thuksey in 1999. Lyonpo is married to Aum Thuji Zangmo and they have a son and three daughters.

He was Minister of Works and Human Settlement in the erstwhile government.

An educationist and a social worker, Tandin Wangmo, 38, has PTC, B.Ed from Samtse College of Education and M.Ed from University of Newcastle, Sydney.

She started her career as a teacher, and later worked as a master trainer in adolescent mental health promotion and a trainer of trainers’ in water and sanitation hygiene. She has also served as a deputy executive director before resigning to join politics.

The 27-year-old who graduated in 2010 with a bachelor in business administration said she intends to focus on curbing the rural-urban migration by uplifting the wellbeing of rural residents, and promoting rural prosperity.

Dr Lotay Tshering, specialist III (ES3 A), Jigme Dorji Wangchuk national referral hospital, ministry of health, voluntarily resigned from the civil service, after years of distinguished service to join politics. He had been in conflict with former Health Minister Zangley Dupka.

Dr Lotay Tshering paid in cheque, his service obligation of about Nu 6.2M to the government and left the service.

Former urological surgeon Dr Lotay Tshering will represent the party from South Thimphu constituency.

The last candidate to join the party said coming from a humble family himself, he identified well with the party’s ideology.
