Justin Gurung of Phuentenchu, Tsirang (Chirang) is a B.Com graduate from St Xavier’s College in Kolkata and had served in the government for 12 years before joining politics in 2007 and elected from the district as National Council member. He served as member of good governance committee in the erstwhile council.
He was Marketing Specialist-EU-Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Project-PH-II (MAPP) in 2007, General Manager-Marketing Division, NRDCL in 2001-2003, Manager, Chundu Enterprises in 1991-2001 and Marketing Officer at BBPL in 1995-1999.
Born on August 29, 1970 in Burichu, Phuntenchu, Chirang, he did his Master of Arts (MA) in Geography Education, University of London, United Kingdom, 1982-84 and Bachelor of Arts, DAV College, Punjab University, Chandigarh, India.
Sangay Tamang
A fresh graduate Sangay Tamang, 26, is from Soen Toepsa village of the district and has a bachelor of commerce degree from Royal Thimphu College. He had joined the desuup (volunteer militia run by Royal Bhutan Police) program also.
Son of a civil servant, Tamang aspires to address the growing youth unemployment in the district.
Shyam Basnet
Bringing along his 10-year experience in the civil service and another 16 years in the private sector, 51-year-old Shyam Basnet is another candidate from Chirang.
He had worked in Royal Civil Service Commission and Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 11 years.
He has Master’s in international relations from Fletcher school of law and diplomacy under Tufts University in the United States. He graduated from DAV college in Chandigarh India with Honours in Public Administration.
Kamal Bahadur Gurung
Kamal Bahadur Gurung is from Mendrelgang. The 45-year-old former senior manager with Bhutan Power Corporation ltd. also claims to come with knowledge of all the districts in the country, having worked on rural electrification project in these places over the years.
Possessing a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Thailand in 2007, he had started off as a civil servant some 23 years ago.
He said, going by his rural experience, an estimated 35 percent of the rural population was still living under national poverty line and these people felt “abandoned and voiceless”.
Navin Darlami
Navin Darlami, 27, is the young contestant of Chirang. Nominee of Gosarling block Darlami was working as marketing manager in one of the newspapers in the country before joining the contests. Navin has MBA from Indian Academy School of Management Studies in Banglore. He did his bachelors degree from HR Presidency College, India.
Pasang Thing Tamang
After completing Bachelors degree in Arts, Pasang has worked as contract teacher for 2 years.
